a buddy told me that if I got a mid-90's vette with a 6 speed manual the car would get me 28-30mpg hiway.

I find this hard to believe. and would apppreciate comments

I've heard rumors that this is true

Quite possible I guess.
I get (according to the onboard fuel info) 25-27 mpg on my '95 automatic on a trip, running 65-70 mph. Standard 17" rims all around.
I do even better than that if I keep my foot out of the fuel tank

on my 93 auto, I got around 24 to 26, above 70. At around 65 to 68 I could at times squeeze out 27/ 28 mpg.

On my 93, 6sp. I have gotten as high as 31mpg on highway cruising. 6th is nice for HW traveling..so yes it is true to get around 30mpg

I get around 22 mpg around town and with key off on the highway around 28 mpg. That's not bad for a performance car.
