I considering buying a vette (1974-1978) for a fun vehicle. These model years have been selected due to price and the fact that I don't want to go real fast. I have heard that some vettes of this era have frame and rearend issues. Also, I live near Chicago so where should I look for rust problems. Any information regarding what to look for would be helpful.

Thanks
Daryl

Welcome aboard Daryl!

The frames on the C2's and C3's are basically the same up from 1963 through 1982, except for some minor changes. On the C3's the frame has a tendency to rust on the right and left side rail, under your rocker panel. Also, the right and rear body mount hangers are prone to rust, as well as the front and right body mount hangers under the R/L firewall and the inner body cage around the windshield posts and firewall.

If you're looking for a Vette around geographic areas that have severely harsh winters, and they use salt on the roads instead of ash on the roads for meltdown, or on the east coast, where you're near salt water, then I would bring it to a professional so he can put it on a lift to check the undercarraige and frame for rust. A lot of times they will use a procedure in which they tap the frame with a pointed edge body hammer to test for weak areas in the frame. Good luck and let us know how you make out.:smoke:

Thanks for the reply. After checking prices in my local area and reading other replies concerning C3s, I purchased a 1994 C4.
I'm off to the C4 thread!

Thanks
