Is the L-56 an uprated stock 350 or a detuned solid lifter engine?
Many thanks

HISTORICAL FOOTNOTES- Refinements were made to the basic styling used since 1968. A new "ice cube tray" design grille and side fender louvers, rectangular amber front signal lights, fender flares and square exhaust exits were exterior changes. The bucket seats and safety belt retractor containers were also improved. Standard equipment included 4 wheel disc brakes, headlight washers, wheel trim rings, center console and all vinyl upholstery availible in black, blue, green, saddle or red. Most 1970 Corvettes, 70.5% came with the 4 speed manual. 33.5% had tilt steering, 27.9% had power windows, 38.5% had A/C, and 68.8% were equipped with power steering. An LT-1 equipped Corvette would do 0-60 in 6.9 seconds and 0-100 in 14 seconds.

Welcome aboard Boc. Some books show the RPO L56 and some show RPO L46. They only show the L46 with the standard 350 cu in. 300 hp engine. Some books state the 350/350 as an L56 and some don't. The 350/350 L56 actually came out in 1969. The difference between the L46 and the L56 ($158 option) was that the L56 had pistons which were domed to bring the compression up to 11:01. It had a Rochester quadro jet that was slightly jetted for higher cfm's, and a performance hydraulic lifter cam, slightly higher than the 300 hp L46. So if you do have the L56, you don't have a solid lifter cam. That was only in the LT1 which had the same compression ratio, but a solid lifter cam, aluminum high rise manifold, free floating pistons, and a hollley with vacuum secondaries.

Intake Lift for L46 Hydraulic Cam was .390
Exhaust Lift for L46 Hydraulic Cam was .410

Intake Lift for L56 Hydraulic Cam was .450
Exhaust Lift for L56 Hydraulic Cam was .460

Hope this helps.
