cuvette,

If you look at the forum for Mobil 1, Bob Pache, Mobil 1 formulator has answered many question for others, including this one. You could read related questions and answers that may be helpful.

As far as your question as to what oil to use, other members here, including myself, and Bob Pache, chemist and formulator for Mobil One, will agree that Mobil One is our choice. A lot of people who race their Vettes will go with the 5w 30 for less drag and better fuel economy. Bob Pache, on his C5 prefers the 10W 30. There's really not much of a difference if you check the chart. I personally change my Mobil One Syntetic oil every 3,000 miles or every six months, whichever comes first. If you store or don't use the car much in the winter, I would put the 5W for the colder weather. Also, if you are storing your car in the winter, I would still change the oil before storing and in the spring when you're ready to take it out again, because over the winter it could collect moisture. Hope this helps.;bt

Have also been informed of using Mobil 1 every 3k miles.
While petroleum refining is an advanced science, small amounts of contaminants, such as sulfur, reactive hydrocarbons and other materials cannot be completely removed from petroleum, and may end up in motor oil base stocks.

A wax is also present in conventional motor oils as well.

I change the oil and filter every 2,000 miles. It's cheap insurance.

I use Mobil 1 5w30 - change the oil when DIC indicates 50% Oil Life left.
