Just joined the group and I'm impressed with the membership and Father Larry's knowledge.
I've just bought my first 'vette (6-28-03) and I have a lot of questions I'll be posting.
My first series is regarding performance:
a.)What are the do's and dont's (especially the "dont's" :D )
b.)What specific "bolt-on" mods could/should I try? I know about 'chipping', exhaust, etc., but I'm looking to draw upon other's experience to avoid damaging any components.
c.)Any advice at all for a newbie to the Corvette Comunity.
Thanks to all who read this post.
If I can answer any racing questions (.375mi, banked asphault, street-stock or truck divisions), please feel free to ask, if I can't give an answer, I may be able to point you in a positive direction.
Happy Independence Day! :usaribbon :birthday: :usaribbon

Welcome aboard rksmotorsports! Thanks for the compliment. We try hard here. Any help you can share with us would be appreciated.
As far at the '84 C4, the first edition of the C4's with the crossfire injection system, it is very unique and starting to be recognized as a collectible. The problems with that year were a lot of rattles, and getting someone to be able to work on the crossfire. Also, there were problems with the cluster head, although today it's not a problem since you can take them out have them repaired. As far as the crossfire injection, you'd have to do some research for the mods and I'm sure if there are any members here that have one, they would be more than happy to guide you in the right direction. It's a great driver and looker, and you'll enjoy it very much. Good luck and congratulations, and thanks for joining us.

Welcome RKSMS.
It's a great Forum. I've been aboard for about two months. Having a Corvette for the first time is a great/weird feeling. After parking mine in the garage, I sometimes sit and look at her, still not believing she's mine.
Have fun driving. Gone.

I'm here to stay on this forum. Welcome aboard, you made a good choice. Really great people and Fatherlarry and Corvette Kotze are very dedicated.
I know how gyere feels. I too, do the same thing. I wish I had every year Corvette in the garage to look at. You know what the greatest feeling is? The fact that it's an all American two seater sports car.:usaribbon :chevy:

Thanks for the welcome all.
It's nice to know that I'm not alone in enjoying looking at my 'vette.
I guess the closest I can come to similar feelings is when I got my first Harley. You sit there just soaking in the aesthetics, then the mind begins to imagine mods and/or improvments, all the while, saying to myself, "man! She looks fantastic and she's mine!"
Right now I've got an oil leak from the valve covers (looks like the last owner put the "gorilla-grip" on the ratchet when he torqued 'em down and squeezed the gaskets out....dummy!) How big of a hassle will it be to replace them? With the crossfire intake setup, it looks like a pain.
I have a Haynes manual (almost worthless for some apps.....) and no experience on this type or air induction. Any ideas/suggestions? (Other than taking it to a shop. I prefer to do my own work.)
Also, anyone know where to get door & top weatherstripping cheap?
Thanks,
Kevin

Cancel that last about valve covers. Got the job done and it wasn't bad at all
Anyone ever use a product from CD-2 called "Engine Detailer"? I've tried it and found that short term it looks/works great! Just a little concerned about any 'down the road' drawbacks. The stuff seems to work well.......gives a shiny/wet appearance, yet dry to the touch. Anyone with knowledge, please let me know if there's a downside.

Hi rksmotorsports,
The CD-2 has a tendency to give a white haze to the compartment after a couple of months. It doesn't bother some people because they detail the car every month for shows or events, and re-application takes care of that. It won't harm it in any way, but you have to keep up with it. CD-2 is an old favorite and it was used years ago to clean up rings and engine blocks. I believe it has some hydraulic fluid mixed with it. It really worked great on the older cars for burning out carbon and cleaning the rings. The company has been around a long time and I'm sure they wouldn't put anything out that would do any harm.;bt

Hi there!
I also own an 84 corvette crossfire and I love it even though the tranny is crying like a little baby. Some suggestions that helped me get the most from my engine......
1. Replace the air filter, oil, oil filter, and coolant flush. A cooler engine runs much better and you can squeeze more mpg!
2. Clean the throttle body and air intake. Remove the air filter cover, air filter, and the housing that the filter sits on. Take a look at your injectors and inside the throttle body. I sprayed some throttle cleaner to clean the injectors and now she just starts right up when b4 it took a few seconds to turn over.
3. There also exists another forum which caters only to crossfire owners. crossfire.com, I think.
