My rear Corvette logo has wax buildup or something around the edges.
I detailed the car, but can not get this stuff off, I even tried a old toothbrush, but wash only using Armour All car wash.
Maybe I should try some Dawn dishsoap to try to get rid of it.
Maybe the previous owner took the logo off and put it back on, and diong so slid the logo around to smear the adhesive.
It takes away from the shine of the car to have this junk that looks like smeared grout around the inside and outside of the logo.
I will try dawn soap and see what happens, if that does not work, what should I try next?
I don't want to harm the paint, so I'm gonna hold off on acetone or any solvents.
Maybe WD-40?

Mikmotorhead,
I know how you feel. It sound like the previous owner might have removed it and reglued it. What drives me crazy on mine is the scratches in between the flags that you can't get at.
Well, this is what I did. I bought a new front and rear emblem. I have a hardtop with a trunk. I don't know if you have a coupe or vert, but it shouldn't matter. I heated the front emblem with a hair dryer to loosen the glue, and with a credit card slowly lifted up while I kept applying heat to the emblem. There's no bolts on the front bumper holding the emblem, nor on the rear emblem. The front has two guide pins that go into the holes. Don't apply too much heat in one spot because you could bubble the paint. Keep moving with the hair dryer. Don't use a razor blade because you could end up cutting into the paint.
Once the emblem comes off, part of the adhesive stays on the painted area. Dupont sells grease and wax remover that you could apply and loosen and remove the glue. It takes a little time for the grease remover to penetrate. It's the safest professional product. Once the glue is removed, rub out the scratches with 3M Perfect-It III, part number 05937. Then just wax. Don't rub too hard with the 3M, because you could rub through the paint. Repeat for rear and you should be all set.
Now, you may run into a problem if the front bumper and rear trunk lid was repainted and they just masked the emblem and applied the clear coat. That's the hard substance that you may be having a problem with. In that case it's not wax or glue, so if you remove the emblem it may leave the imprint of the emblem, and you might want a professional to look at it first before you remove it at all. You could end up making it look worse, if it was repainted. Well, good luck, and let me know how you make out. Any body shop should be able to tell you if it's wax or glue build up or if it was actually repainted.
