Do I Need It???

88 coupe . . . On the upper pully (engin compartment) is a rather large steel disc approx. 1/4" thick. What is this and do I need to keep in on?
I seem to have read something somewhere it can be removed.

I seem to have read something somewhere it can be removed. Hello Steve, This disc that mounts on the water pump pulley is a vibration dampener. On your 88 coupe it was used to control vibrations from the engine serpentine belt. If removed you would experience unwanted vibrations caused by the belt and pulleys. It would be in your best interest to keep it. Let me know what you decide.:chevy: MKOTZE
