Hello Everybody again, I realized I never gave the part numbers for the manual kit. So here they are: wire kit-#88952428-$26.32 or at GMPARTSDIRECT.COM-$15.00. Revised Lock Assembly-#26050960-$171.25 or $97.61. This kit covers all 97-2000 manual Trans. Good Luck:chevy: MKOTZE

With one variation, the GM kit requires you to disassemble the upper part of the steering column to remove the original tooth wheel. The aftermarket kit does not replace the tooth wheel at all. Since the GM kit requires the steering column repair it would be best to have a qualified Technician do the job. However, the aftermarket kit could be done by someone with moderate ability at home. Even though it may be slightly more expensive I would recommend using the GM kit because by removing the tooth wheel there is no way it could lock up again. Hope this helps.:chevy: MKOTZE

Mike,

I've got a 2000 HDTP, purchased 9-4-99, which had the column lock 8-14-00 @ 13,400 miles. My local dealer repaired using PN 26050960, and I haven't had a problem since. They did not replace the wiring kit.

Then GM started the recall in July 2001, my Vette included, and I've yet to take it in to have it performed. Per the letter, I have until July 1, 2003. I keep getting notices to have this done.

Since the Vette has been flawless ever since, I've been hesitant to have it done. From your experience, how important is the wiring harness?

I thinking about having this done in June, 2003. I'm under the impression that since my Vette is out of warranty now, if I experience the column lock before 7-1-03, GM will cover the cost of repair. I've got AAA for the towing if neccessary, and the repair and labor performed by the dealer in June is warranted for 12mos/12k miles. So, I should be covered until June '04, for any future column locks. Is this assumption correct?

Thanks,

Thanks, Hello 2Kfrc5, Well actually Yes I would recommend having the relay and harness installed. This is a fairly simple procedure but worth doing. Even if you have not experienced this problem recently you can still have the procedure done at no cost to you up until July 1, 2003. As far as the warranty of the repair I'm not positive it would be covered, you should consult the dealer to find out if it will be covered or not. I hope this helps.:chevy: MKOTZE

Thanks Mike. for your prompt reply. It's appreciated and carries weight with me.

As for the 12/12 warranty, it is on the reverse side of the work order from my dealer. My assumption was all dealers offered this.
