Father Larry,
A friend is looking at a 72 bigblock. It needs paint and interior. The only major problem I saw was badlly rusted windshield posts. What is the best fix for this and a ballpark figure. The car is priced at 9 grand, which I think is good even with the post problem.

Rayfan,

This one I'd really have to look at. I'd have to look behind the moldings and poke around with something sharp to see how deep the rust goes. It may just be surface rust, or it might go right through to the frame. It's really rough for me to answer as I would actually have to see it. Something like this really needs to be seen by a body shop technician. If it is rotted then signs of water can be found by running a hose over it and looking to see if water is coming in. Some movement with the whole windshield housing could indicate more extensive damage. The right way is to remove the windshield and weatherstripping and moldings to examine and see what repair it might need. It could be something minor or may be a major job. Cost factor can't really be determined with out examining it. If you go to a body shop, ask them what is needed to find out what the extent of the damage is and hours to repair. Maybe he'll work along with your friend. Hope this helps a little. If you can be more specific and check it better, maybe I can help out further.
