Hi all,
My 1970 is my first Corvette and so far my last. It's a power house. It has 15,000 miles on it, and my family and I love it. My son is looking for a C5 and he likes the hardtop. He found this site so as soon as he gets his Corvette he'll join too.
Would like to talk to some other C3 owners. I was on the Corvette Forum for a while and really didn't like it. Too many people and not all too friendly. Glad to have found this one.:wavey:

Welcome ttop 70. I have a matching#`s Laguna Grey 70 t-top. It is a 350-300. But I love the car so much that it is enough power for me. I am in VA. not too far away.

I love mine too. I don't think I'd ever get rid of it. I read your posts on how you bought yours. Nice to see that the style is still sought after. :)

Hi ttop70,
Just curious. To my knowledge didn't the Ontario Orange come out in 1971 as one of three new colors called the "firemist" hues?
I didn't think Ontario Orange was an option in '70. Did you have it painted, although the rest of the car is pure stock?

Father Larry , you know your 70 Vettes.
Classic White
Monza Red
Cortez Silver
Bridgehampton Blue
Donnybrooke Green
Daytona Yellow
Marlboro Maroon
Laguna Grey
Corvette Bronze
Also a ? Is Laguna Grey the same color as Steel Cities Grey? Seems alot of the colors might be the same but they just changed the name.

Fatherlarry,
You're right. Originally the color was Corvette Bronze, but when the Ontario Orange came out in '71, I hemmed and hawed and then in 1972 I had it repainted, because I really loved the Ontario Orange. The horsepower changed in 1971 on the 454, and on the '72, so I figured instead of trading it in just for the color, I preferred to keep the car I had and go for the repaint. The car is pure stock otherwise. Sorry if I was misleading.

Although, some websites and the black book list Ontario Orange as an option in 1970, I believe that this might be an error. In Corvette Quarterly's "Best of Corvette News from 1953-1976, under information on the 1971, where Jerry O'Connor, chief paint inspector, talks about paint quality for that year, it states:
"In 1971, seven colors are brand new: Brands Hatch Green, Mille Miglia Red, Nevada Silver, Sunflower Yellow, Steel Cities Gray, Ontario Orange and War Bonnet Yellow. The latter three new colors are special "firemist" hues. Mulsanne Blue, Bridgehampton Blue and Classic White round out the '71 selection."
Now, if anyone could come up with any other information on this, let us know. It seems that Corvette Quarterly wouldn't be wrong in stating this since this is direct from GM. I have checked Ditzler, R&M, Dupont, Sherwin Williams and Mobil, and their 1970 paint chips chart doesn't show Ontario Orange. They do show Corvette Bronze. The paint number shown in the black book for Ontario Orange is #991 which doesn't match with the Ontario Orange for 1971 & 1972 paint #987. The only color that it could possibly be for 1970 is the Corvette Bronze, which could look kind of orangey. Also, from my own recollection, when the 1970's came out, I don't remember the Orange, but I do remember the Corvette Bronze.
Also, the sidepipes were not a factory option in 1970, but were in 1969.

Right again! I had the dealer install them when I bought the car and where the exhaust came out from the rear, he closed them up for me. You know, I have the original exhaust and mufflers for it. Really thinking of going back to the original, because the heat and the noise is a pain in the neck. Otherwise, the car still pure stock, unless you find something else out. :o  I thought being the dealer put it on that it could still be considered stock.

RayFan,
I'm getting to show my age. I painted these colors back in those years so often, but I'm truly starting to forget.
To answer your question, in 1970 the paint number was 992 and in 1971 the number was 988. Again, Corvette Quarterly states:
"In 1971, seven colors are brand new: Brands Hatch Green, Mille Miglia Red, Nevada Silver, Sunflower Yellow, Steel Cities Gray, Ontario Orange and War Bonnet Yellow. The latter three new colors are special "firemist" hues. Mulsanne Blue, Bridgehampton Blue and Classic White round out the '71 selection."
Usually the rule of thumb is if the numbr is different than the color is also. Years ago I remember Cadillac had a certain white, dupont number was 4024, and the color code on the trim panel on the firewall was number 11. Those paint codes stood for a number of years until they changed the shade of white. Hope this was of some help.
