Hi Mr. Kotze, I'm new here. I have a '68 Convertible. I was wondering if it would be difficult to change my steering column and use one from a 1970. The '70 has the column lock on it. Would all the hook ups fit or is there anything I should look out for? Thank you Mr. Kotze.

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner but I've been extra busy with several corvettes and the family too. So as far as the steering column goes the 70 does not bolt in without several modifications. These would be: the steering coupler at the base of the steering column to steering box(diameters are different), wiring is different for turn signals, the ignition lock would be involved due to the fact that the original one is on the dash. These modifications are possible but are time consuming. I'm curious as to why you would want to change the steering column in the first place? If the 68 column is damaged it would still be easier to fix that one than to replace it with the 70. Let me know what's up.:chevy: MKOTZE

Hi Mike, the car was broken into. I live in downtown Brooklyn and it's kind of hard to keep a Vette on the street. I rent a garage and someone broke into it and tried to steel the car. A neighbor saw what was going on and the theives saw that he saw them and fled. I had a special bar made up to lock the steering column and they sawed the steering wheel and part of the column with it. Guess they were amateurs. I know of someone that has a column out of a '70 for $75, so I thought it would be easier to replace the whole column. Thanks for the information. Maybe I'll bring it to someone and they could replace the column for me using parts from both like you said. Thanks for the reply, I understand you are busy, and I do appreciate you helping me on this site.

Thanks Fatherlarry and Corvette Kotze. The links you gave me were great and both very helpful. Rocco had the steering column and asked me what color did I need with steering wheel and all. Wow! Having it shipped out. Price was great too. Thank you both for all your help.
