NADA revises its ethics code - 2002-10-14
The business ethics scandals are having an effect among the nation's car dealers.
The large publicly traded dealer groups, such as AutoNation and Roger Penske's UnitedAuto Group are making sure their business practices are up to snuff.
Now, the National Automobile Dealers Association is revising its code of ethics for all dealers. At the top of the list is the way dealers sell finance and insurance products, known as F&I.
F&I products, such as extended warranties, are very profitable. And some dealers have been known to foist them on car buyers who don't need them.
NADA says that must stop.
The association reminds dealers of their responsibilities to community, employees and customers.
Soon, you may see the code of ethics posted in every dealership.
