Hi Bob,

Bob, I changed the oil on my C5 Hardtop, and used the new super syn. Can you tell me what the difference is between the original Mobil 1 and the super syn? Thanks Bob.

Super Syn is a high molecular weight synthetic hydrocarbon which in=mparts improved oil film strenght. It is a patented product by Mobil, now ExxonMobil. Adfditionally, the additive system in the new Mobil 1 oils is improved to meet world auttomotive requirements. The new Mobil 1 with Super Syn offers improved wear protection, detergency, and fuel efficiency over the previous formulation. It is superior to any other synthetic product.

Great to hear that the product is always being improved upon. Robert, I don't know if you can answer this question. Being you're a chemist you may have a general idea. I guess you know when aluminum and steel are put together it creates a reaction between the two metals. Does using a magnet drain plug contribute any negative reaction to cylinder block and heads? I think its called electrolysis when aluminum and steel meet. I don't know if I am explaining it right, so forgive me for my ignorance. The reason I'm asking is that being that my car sits more than its driven, I wonder if this would do any harm? And, thanks for answering my previous question.:)

I am not an expert, but without an electrolytic media, I dont think you have any concern over the effect of the magnet. Besides the surfaces are coated with oil which acts as an insulator. In cooling systems, properly maintained coolants are inhibited to prevent any electrytic action.
