? on the seams of body panels

Is it true that the only way that you usually do not see some kind of evidence of body panel seams is if they have been blocked and filled in which would not be a true factory condition

Absolutely. On those body years, it was very prounounced from the factory, especially on darker colors. A lot of people complained about it back then, and being that they were under warranty, they were reblocked and were lightly swiped with body filler to fill in the seams. I don't think it will take away from originality, but if you do find one and you see these seam lines, especially around the very upper part of the quarter panels and front fenders, then you know you have a factory paintjob with factory fit.
