Hi Mike,
I'm new here. Maybe you can help me. I have a '99 hardtop and I would like to change over to the stock Z06 rims and tires all around. Do I have to have the car aligned? Someone told me that I'd have to get them re-aligned because of the difference in the size of the rims. Said something about setting it at zero, like the Z06's. I know that the rear tires & rims are wider on the Z06, but are the front tires & rims wider also. They also said something about the caster and camber being changed. Maybe you could explain a little better what is meant by all this. Thank you Mike.

Mike, I just got mine with 500 miles on it off of a Z06, front and rear that someone was selling. I hung up my stock ones in the garage, and just put on the new ones without doing anything else. Should I have done a realignment on them? They're not run flats, and I also got the flat tire pump kit from GM. Let me know Mike.:banghead:

Okay, First off no you do not have to have an alignment done. The Z06 wheels are 1" wider in the front and back. The alignment specs for the Z06 are slightly different. The difference is so slight that you would not notice any significant change. Although, it is not required to do an alignment it is a good practice on any vehicle to do a periodic alignment. Also I would recommend having a four-wheel alignment done by a technician you TRUST! During an alignment the technician will check or adjust the settings for the front camber, caster, and toe. The zero setting your friend was refering to was the toe setting. The rear can only have the camber and toe adjusted. If you decide to have an alignment done you ccan use the Z06 specs.Hope this helps. Noticed you're going to Carlisle maybe I'll see you there.:chevy: MKOTZE

Thanks Mike. Would you be able to post the settings for both the hardtop and Z06 for comparison? I think everyone would be interested. Thank you Mike, very much.:chevy:

I just saw this thread, and I to would like to change over to the Z06 wheels. I would like to see the settings also, if you don't mind Mike.
I'll be at Carlisle also. Where will I find you?

Mike, I'm curious. If I buy a set of Z06 rims, can I use the run flat tires that I have on there now? I was talking with someone and they told me that the Z06's don't have the air sensing unit to tell you if you're low on air pressure. So if I change the rims could I put the sensors back in for the computer? And, if I can't will it throw off the computer? I'm a little confused so don't mind me. If I have to change the tires for the Z06 rims, what tires would you recommend?:banghead:

WinmarJ,
I think Mike would agree with me. Correct me Mike if I am wrong, but I did some research and the Z06 doesn't come with air pressure sensors. Now I'm curious if I change the wheels if it will effect the car any. I know they have a little air pump that pumps something into it if you get a flat. You have to get that also.:chevy:

As you know these are not run flat tires. Also they do not have the air pressure sensors. You could only install the sensors on a new rim if it is made to accomodate the sensor, which I don't think is possible, at least not yet. I hope this helps. :chevy: MKOTZE

Also from the research I have done it would appear that the computer will not set any codes if all the sensors are missing. It needs to be able to read at least one sensor to activate the system. It is not recommended to use the run flats on a 1" wider wheel. So if you are going to replace the rim you should also replace the tires. If you do use the Z06 tires and wheels it will result in improved handling and a smoother ride. :chevy: MKOTZE
