In the past the oil consumption problem was recommended to be fixed by replacing the #2 compression rings. However, the newest information that applies to 2001 LS6 motors ONLY is that in addition to the rings there is a revised engine valley cover. This cover has composite oil separating baffles and PCV plumbing incorporated in the cover. In some cases the PCV baffle may not be properly sealed to the valley cover, causing oil to enter the PCV system. The way you can identify the cover as a problem is to remove the air intake hose and look for signs of oil behind the throttle body, you may have to remove the throtle body to verify for signs of oil. The part number for the new Valley cover is 12568002.:chevy: MKOTZE
