This write up came with the documentation for the 1999 Corvette Hardtop die-cast model.
The truly creative never stand still...never rest on their laurels. For greatness comes from taking risks, from "pushing the envelope," from discovering what is needed at any particular time. This is the case of the 1999 Corvette Hardtop--for it is a design of pure genius.
When Corvette introduced its "Hardtop" in 1999, it was the first fixed roof Corvette in over thirty years. Indeed, not since the 1967 Corvette Sting Ray, had there been a Corvette coupe with such a top. And because there was no roof panel, the product was a lighter Corvette, more rigid in structure that any other 1999 Corvette production model.
The 1999 Corvette---the fifth generation of the Corvette--was started from scratch...a clean sheet of paper. Granted, the designers and engineers at General Motors had with them over thirty years of Corvette history to refer to, and so, using everything they had learned about performance cars since 1953, they strove to make the 1999 Corvette the best yet.
Along with the standard amenities found on a Corvette, the 1999 model could also be had with the Z51 Suspension Package This option was designed for sanctioned racing and includes Z-rated eagle F1 EMT tires, 18 inch rear wheels and a six-speed manual transmission. This a a serious sports machine, designed for maximum performance in acceleration, braking and handling.
The engine powering this awesome automobile is a V-8. Displacing an impressive 350 cubic inches, the sixteen valve engine provides 345 horsepower. Truly, it is an automobile that is certain to grab everyone's attention.
Now, as the 1999 Corvette Hardtop continues to turn heads on the road today, Franklin Mint Precision Models re-creates this new generation of Corvette in an incomparable die-cast replica licensed by Chevrolet Motor Division. Accurate in every detail--from the 5.7L V-8 engine to the fixed roof, your 1999 Corvette Hardtop is destined to become a classic that will be treasured and admired for many years to come.
And, remember, one thing that they forgot to say is that its the ONLY Corvette in Corvette History that's a hardtop WITH a trunk. And, it can come close to the quarter mile time of the big blocks of yesteryear, such as the '67 L88, and a ZR1 small block with it's four overhead cams. That says a lot about this VETT, destined to be a collectible.
