This was a question that was emailed to me and thought I would like to share it with the answer.

I've been searching and searching for the info we need and I haven't come
across it yet so I thought i'd just ask you. We just purchased our first
vette, a 1964 fuel injection. It has side pipes and everyone keeps saying
that isn't original and we want to keep the car original. Did they have side
pipes in 1964? Were do I go to search the vin numbers etc to get some kind of
history on the car.
I appreciate any info you give me at all.
Thank you, Jewell/Vince

In 1963-1964 high performance dual exhaust was offered with knock off wheels and fuel injection. Not til 1965, the first year for the 396 cu, was feathered sidepipes offered as an option. New look along with new power!. When the 425 hp Turbo-Jet 396 engine was ordered in a 1965 Corvette, a significant change in the hood apprearance occured A bubble-like rise with louvers at each side blends into the raised spear design common to all Sting Ray hoods. These louvers are functional. The new extra-cost side-mounted exhaust system also is available for all '65 Corvettes as factory-installed equipment for the first time.

Hope this helped Jewell/Vince
