How does everyone feel about changing the black rail covers to the red Z06 covers. Do you think it will take away from the collectibility or value of my hardtop? Will it look like a Z06 wannabe. I really do like the red covers.:yakyakyak :chevy:

I would stay purely stock with the car. A lot of non corvette enthusiasts start changing heads, camshafts, and changing the exhaust, racing them and beating the piss out of them. Only for the next true enthusiast to come along and buy, and bring it back to stock condition. Stock cosmetic mods don't really take away from the value of the car, just save your original covers if you go with the red. I feel half of these mod exhaust systems that they sell are overpriced and overrated. Actually you're throwing money away. You can get so much out of the displacement of your engine with the technology today. Unlike the Viper, using the old method of cubic in. and torque, you have to design a different engine to get the most out of it and change your gearing. Then you can't drive around town without worrying about overheating in traffic and enjoy your ride. The way the car is stock you'll still be able to blow the doors off of many cars? Or do you constantly want to be under the hood with repairs and bleeding your pocket? My opinion is keep it all stock. And if you want more hp wait for the next Vette.:yakyakyak

Topvette,
I hate to disagree with you, but those who mod their Corvettes are true enthusiasts also. That's what makes this car so exciting. It stimulates creativity and with people expressing themselves through their cars in different ways. It stimulates the economy, it creates conversation at car shows and events. When their done with them and it goes to the next person, the next owner can either keep it that way or restore it back to original. As far at the prices being too high? Well, that depends on supply and demand. We do live in a capitalist society. I also am a purist at heart, so I understand what you're saying. But, it's not to say only our way is the right way. To each their own.:nono:

I guess it didn't come out right. You're 100% right. I guess hardtopcage only asked about rail covers and I started ranting. Sorry about that.

:banghead: :banghead: Geez, all I asked about was rail covers. I'm not saying I am going to destroy my hardtop. And, even if I did want a few mods, that's not destroying it. Chill!

Seems like everybody has Z06 covers, so I decided to do my own thing. I masked and oval around the word “Corvette” and painted them silver with clearcoat over. I painted the K&N air bridge to match. I think they look good. They’re unique and I can always change them back if I so desire (no way). – C.

Welcome aboard! This hardtop section is really starting to move. I'm really glad to see another hardtop member, although all Corvettes are great. Do you have any pics of those rail covers you painted. We'd love to see them. I think we can use the attachment option here. They sound really good looking!

Welcome to our forum Mr C's 5. Glad you made it. I'm kind of embarassed. Today I went to Outten Chevrolet and ordered the red rail covers. I would love to see pics of yours. You can just put an attachment to a post. Again, thanks for joining. Please tell your friends from C1's to C'5's to stop by. Hope to meet you at one of the car shows or events. Will try in the future to get members together for a gathering.

Welcome Mr C's 5. You came to a great place for Corvettes. My wife and I feel very comfortable here and I know you will too.
I really enjoyed hearing about how you bought your car. I could have bought two if my wife went to the ladies room.....maybe even three:LOL:

Thank you all for such a warm welcome. I feel like a member of a family and will respond in kind. As far as the valve covers, I didn’t mean to imply that the red ones weren’t nice, it’s just that I felt creative one day and painted mine. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture, I will do so. Thanks again gang. – C.

Mr C's 5,
Cant' wait to see the pictures. If you email the pics to me, I'll put them on my server. If you have your own avatar design you'd like to use just email me the avatar you'd like as well and I'll put it on the avatar selection. No problem with the rail covers, I was just joking, I know you didnt' mean it that way. :wavey:
I am planning on doing some, under hood painting myself Torch Red to match the rest of the car, I really like the monotone look not to many colors or stripe, I also wanted to add the rear brake vent, but wanted to paint them to match the car, would hate for comments like " O trying to make it liek a ZO6), what do you all think?

I would personally keep the car stock, because it is a limited production. But, on the other hand, if you like it, I wouldn't care what anyone has to say. The car really is a Z06. It was just marketing stratedy and a few mods to boost up hp, coupled with lighter rims and tires and a badge and some screens to bring the car up $10,000 more. After all the Z06 is the son, and we are the father. The father can wear what he wants.

Sounds cool what you want to do, but just save your original parts. I agree with TopVette. There are more Z06's than hardtops. Good luck with what you do and please show us pics when you're done.:wavey:
Thanks for the support, plan on saving all the original parts, will post pictures when done, maybe three to four weeks from now.

Here is what I read in another site and I did it to my Silver Corvette and painted the rail covers to match. They look great.
The only difference from the article is that I purchased the letters to paste on the rail covers once painted.
I have had them for a year and they look good as new.

I spent maybe 40 dollars including the letters.
Good Luck.

;bt ;bt I agree, life is too short, but there are still some of us that are purists, which is great for the future, so we could remember the originality of the past.:chevy:
I think they would look good on your car. I wouldn't mind getting a set for my 2004 coupe. If you come across another set, let me know.
