Hi Mike,
I have a 2000 hardtop. When I go to shut the engine down, it doesn't shut down smoothly, but rumbles as it shuts down. I have owned it since it was new and they told me at the dealership that this is normal. I was wondering if you have any ideas about it. Also, I read your post on the oil filter. Will it do any harm if I use the regular filter, instead of the one designed for synthetic oil? Thanks Mike.

Hi TopVette, First of all No it will not do any harm if you use the regular filter as it was designed for either type of oil. However, the synthetic oil filter is a better oil filter because it is not made with a paper element it is made of 100% synthetic media. It was engineered to trap smaller contaminates and improves oil flow through the filter. Unfortunately it does cost more than the regular filter. If you want to get a synthetic oil filter for the corvette the part number is UPF44. Okay now about the engine problem. Since you've had the vehicle since it was new has it always shut down roughly? In my experience I haven't come across this complaint nor would I consider it normal. There are some things you can have your technician check. Make sure they have tested the fuel injector for leakage. Ask them to check the computer system with the Tech II monitor. This will give alot of valuable information, such as idle speed, TPS angle, etc. Are there any other symptoms ocurring driveability wise, like check engine light coming on or anything else? Let me know. Good Luck.:chevy: MKOTZE

Mike, I get great gas mileage. The car doesn't burn any oil. Never had a problem with the engine or engine light coming on. Car starts great and idles great. Just a little rumble when you shut it off. No pre-ignition, just rumbles for a second. Thanks.

Hey TopVette, I'm glad to hear that the car is functioning so well. Since that is the case there is a good possibility that the rumble you are experiencing could be normal for your vehicle.:chevy: MKOTZE
