Hello, I am curious if anybody has successfully put a trailer hitch on a C5. I am buying a C5 and would like to have a light-duty receiver hitch for pulling small trailers, etc (about 900lb total weight, such as my race set tires, tools, compressor, etc). I have had no problem in the past with heavier 3500lb hitches on my previous Z28's. Of course, I realize the anatomy is a bit different under the vette...
I called a custom hitch business who said they had put hitches on vettes in the remote past, but nobody had asked them to in a number of years.
Any ideas/experience??? Thanks!

Welcome aboard! What model Vette are you buying, a vert, coupe or hardtop?

I've seen a few C5's with custom trailers. As a matter of fact, there's a fellow I met who lives in Brooklyn, NY, who designed and fabricated himself a custom trailer from a wrecked C5 where he used the rear clip from the C5 and fabricated a hitch so it looked like the back end of a Corvette, same color as his car, which was black. Look really cool. He made it so the brake lights worked on the trailer. He took the rear suspension from the wrecked C5 and fabricated a floor and fitted it with a straight axle. Did a beautiful job. Took first place for it.

I don't see any problem with a trailer hitch on the C5, but I don't know if there are any manufacturers that make it for the C5. You may have to do some searching, or get a welder or fabricator to make one for you, like the body man from Brooklyn. The C5 sits on a chassis now, not like the C4's that were unitized. It does have a rear rail where a hitch can be attached, but I don't know of any mfgs that have designed one for C5 use. It would be interesting to know if anyone does. Let me know how you make out in your search.
