Events At The Classic!

The Sioux Falls Corvette Club Proudly Presents The 2002 Black Hills Corvette Classic! Join hundreds of Corvettes and thousands of Corvette enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada for the four day "Stars, Stripes & Vettes Forever" celebration in the beautiful Black Hills of SD.

The event starts in Sioux Falls with "Hot Summer Nights" on Wednesday and continues on Thursday with one of the World's Longest and Largest Corvette Caravans to Spearfish, SD. The 31st Annual BHCC event includes drag races, autocross races, car show, Vette Street, tours, poker run, parties and concludes with a banquet. We encourage you and your club to use your imagination to display our "Stars, Stripes, & Vettes Forever" theme through out the entire event especially at the Hat-a-tude Adjustment party and car show.

3:00 - 5:30 p.m. CST
Gathering of Corvettes at Chevrolet of Sioux Falls, 4200 West 12th Street in Sioux Falls, SD. Sioux Falls Corvette Club members will be on hand to answer questions on the event and our Black Hills Corvette Classic merchandise will be on sale.

Historic Downtown Sioux Falls
5:30 - 10:00 p.m. CST
Over six blocks in downtown Sioux Falls will be closed for special Corvette and Harley parking. The “Rumbles” rock-n-roll band will be playing for your enjoyment. Enjoy Sioux Falls finest restaurants and specialty shops. Relax and enjoy meeting new Corvette enthusiasts and old friends! You can purchase the Black Hills Corvette Classic Merchandise at the Sioux Falls Corvette Club trailer located on Phillips Avenue. Join 40,000 people at the Hot Summer Nights Celebration for street dancing, shopping, viewing and visiting.


Thursday, July 18, 2002

6:30 a.m. CST
Drivers Meeting at Chevrolet of Sioux Falls for anyone going in the Caravan. This is very important so please be there to receive a road report and any necessary information.

7:00 a.m. SHARP
Start of one of the “World’s Longest and Largest Corvette Caravans”. Approximately 500 corvettes will be traveling together for 400 miles along I-90, west to the Black Hills. There are two scheduled stops: Breakfast at Al’s Oasis on the Missouri River and lunch at Wall, SD, near the Badlands. The caravan will arrive at the Northern Black Hills (Spearfish) Holiday Inn at approximately 3:00 p.m. MST.

Black Hills Classic Registration
3:30 - 5:30 p.m. MST
You will receive your packets and be able to sign up for any activities you plan to participate in. Pre-registration will save you time and money. Those who pre-register will receive a detailed itinerary with your registration number. PLEASE BRING YOUR REGISTRATION NUMBER to registration with you. Visit the Black Hills Corvette Classic Merchandise and Vendors Booths. (Late registration will be from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. MST)

If you have car problems:
Queen City Motors of Spearfish is offering extended hours and mechanics on call to help you with any of your Corvette needs.

Tech Inspection
4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Immediately after you sign up for Autocross and Drag Races, take your paperwork and car to the tech inspection area.

Hat-a-tude Adjustment Mixer
5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Our registered guests are invited to enjoy the Mixer immediately after registration. Let your imagination run wild as you plan to "show & tell" your favorite hat that represents any special person, place or event in your life. Our theme is "Stars, Stripes & Vettes Forever", but don't let that hinder your creativity. The mixer will include free sodas, wine, beer, a free BBQ burger/chips, cash bar, music, prizes and a Peoples Choice Car Show. This event will be held from 5 - 8 p.m. in the Holiday Inn parking lot and will allow plenty of time to socialize and enjoy an evening with other Corvette enthusiasts. There will also be a wash and shine area, an opportunity to Dyno your car, and a chance to practice your reaction time on the drag race staging lights. The rest of the evening is yours to enjoy and relax on your own.

Continental Breakfast Social/Craft Show/Fish Fry
Due to the growing popularity of the Spearfish Festival in the Park craft show, the Spearfish Chamber sponsored Corvette Fish Fry has been substituted by the Show and Shine Continental Breakfast Social. This event is sponsored by the Spearfish Chamber Diplomats and Queen City Motors... Friday, July 19 from 8 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at Matthews Opera House, 614 1/2 Main Street, Spearfish. The Festival in the Park craft show will run from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2002.


Friday July 19, 2002

Vette Street USA
8:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
Parking begins in downtown Spearfish. The streets will be blocked off to provide safety and an enjoyable time for you to enjoy the fantastic array of Corvettes. There will be a few short seminars available during this time. Vendors, shops,and restaurants will be open for your convenience. It’s a great location for the panoramic photograph of all the parked Corvettes which you won’t want to miss.

Continental Breakfast Social
8 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Matthews Opera House, 614 1/2 Main Street, Spearfish, SD. This event is sponsored by the Spearfish Chamber Diplomats and Queen City Motors.

Drag Race
1:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Gates open at 1:00 p.m. at the Sturgis Dragway. See packet or registration form for directions and starting times. Bring your own helmet and please get registered and tech inspected Thursday evening. If you don’t care to race, come to watch, the stands will be free to all registered for the Black Hills Classic. New this year, the drag races will be divided into early and late run groups to allow more time for racers to enjoy other activites.

Guided Tours
Will leave from the Spearfish Holiday Inn shortly after Vette Street. Please sign up on Thursday at registration to pick your time and travel area. Maps for Self-Guided Tours will be included in your registration packet.

Options Open Night
When you return from touring or the Drag Races, the night is open for your choice of entertainment. Enjoy an evening of dining, dancing, or gambling in Historic Deadwood, SD. Many casinos will be offering BHCC guests special "Deals" and your registration wristband qualifies you for our leather jacket giveaways at 9:00 p.m., 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. at various casinos.

For our patriotic guests we invite you to take the 1 1/2 hour drive to witness the memorable and inspiring lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore. An experience you'll long remember.


Saturday, July 20, 2002

Auto Cross
8:00 a.m.
Auto Cross races will be at the college parking lot in Spearfish. See packet for directions. It’s a fun time for you to try your skills whether you are a novice or experienced. New this year, the auto cross will be divided into early and late run groups to allow racers and spectators more time to enjoy the many other activities.

Guided Tours
Will leave from the Spearfish Holiday Inn. Please sign up on Thursday at registration to pick your time and travel area. Maps for Self-Guided Tours will be included in your registration packet.

Banquet Social Hour
6:00 - 7:00 p.m. (Spearfish Holiday Inn)

Banquet
7:00 - 9:30 p.m.
The Banquet will be held in the Spearfish Convention Center located at the Holiday Inn. There will be open seating, but you must have your wristband on for admittance and dinner. There will be awards and door prizes.

Following the Banquet:
Time to unwind, say your goodbyes before you begin to pack for your trip back home.
