On occasion, I seem to be getting excess steam/fog coming out of the defroster vents and on one occasion a passenger thought there was smoke coming out of the dash vent.
Any ideas guys? Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the problem you're having. If it doesn't have an exhaust smell to it, then it sounds like the heater core is leaking..
Is your rug wet on the passenger side? Do you get the steam when you put the defroster on?

Check exhaust for leaks to be on the safe side.

I would agree with FatherLarry

Hi Larry, thanks for your response...yes, I do get a damp passenger side carpet on occasion. Guess this makes it more likely the core problem?
You think a "backyard mechanic" can take care of that relatively easy? :)

That's a hard question to answer. But here's some questions I would ask myself before I gave it to a backyard mechanic to work on, or in this case, if the backyard mechanic is you.

Do you know if the person you are dealing with, works for a GM dealership, or is a certified mechanic trying to make a few bucks from home?

Is he familiar with C4 Corvettes?

Do you know people that have brought their Corvettes to him?

Is his backyard shop organized? This is important, because it may say something about how he'll treat your Corvette.

Also, check the price that a dealer would charge you, by breaking down the amount of hours to remove and install the core, and the price of the core. That's including anti-freeze, hoses and clamps. Compare it to the price the backyard mechanic is giving you. Being he has no overhead, his price should be 1/2 of what the dealer is charging.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
