Just wondering if someone can help me out im having oil pressure problems!
I have a 89 tpi vette and when it is cold the oil pressure is good around 310 kpa on idle but when the engine temp gets to 70 degrees C or 158 F the oil pressure drops to 2 psi i have changed the oil tried mobil 1 and verious other oil thicknesses but the same thing can someone tell me what it could be?

Thanks heaps

Also if someone would like to help support victums of terrorism please vist this site and donate online www.ztof.org

I would suggest getting an adapter (mechanical gauge) & check the oil pressure that way. If it still goes to 2 PSI you'll need professional diagnosis I would think.

310 Kpa..is that 45 lbs at startup? Metric is not familiar to me.

310 kpa is about 45 psi

Can you change the oil pump with the motor still in the car

Don't know if the oil pump can be changed without pulling the engine,

I would check the pressure (mechanically) & the gauge, as suggested.

It's better to try & isolate the problem before changing parts
that your not sure are related to the problem.

How many miles on your car?

Got this info from another source.

I if you can get the oil pan off without pulling the motor, the oil pump should be easy. I don't think you can because you would have to raise the engine quite a bit in orer to clear the rotating assembly and main caps to get the oil pan off. You also have the ladder brace that connects the trans to the rear end to deal with.

Hope it helps.

Have talked to others & they suggest you check the oil pressure sensor.

They think if you only had 2 PSI of oil pressure the engine would be making all sorts of racket!

90,000 is a lot of mileage and depending on how your car maintained and driven, could say a lot too. So far what Red Dwarf has been telling you is correct info and steps you should be taking. But, another possibility could be that crankshaft sleeve and main bearings caps are worn. And, this will also contribute to low oil pressure.

Am not familiar with L98"S. Sori. Maybe someone will come up with an answer?

The "dizzy". Is that the distributor?

Hi, by taking out one or both engine mount long bolts the engine can be lifted enugh to clear the engine parts from oil pan. then you can change the main bearings and piston road bearings. At kragen or Autozone you can buy the repair manual Haynes that explains this procedure. I did this procedure on a 1986 and a 1992 and the pressure came back. If you do this procedure acording to instructions.
Good luck.:)
