My clutch fork broke and was replaced by my mechanic. The new fork broke also, right after the installation. Any ideas?

FX GS,

I'm just curious. With the Callaway, what kind of diaphragm do they have in there. Is it the finger type or the standard? Mike will get to your question as soon as he gets out of his garage. He's working right now.

Hello FXGS, Gees two broken clutch forks is unusual. However, it could indicate a binding condition in the clutch pressure plate assembly. Did your mechanic remove the clutch and check the pressure plate? If not, you should have him check that. Do you have the original factory clutch or has it been modified? Hope this helps. Good Luck! :( Clutch fork saga continues. Here is the scenario;

A few weeks ago while running a track event as I downshifted from 4th to 3rd the engine killed and as I went to push clutch pedal back in to restrart it was hard as a rock and could not be depressed.

My mechanic inspected and said the flywheel and clutch looked good with very little wear, but the pressure plate was bad (out of balance?) He replaced the pressure plate and clutch fork.

I drove the car about 100 miles, street driving with no problem.
This past Friday I was running a track event again, ran almost 100 miles with no problems. Car ran fantastic, shifted smooth, then lo and behold, again as I downshifted, this time I felt the clutch pedal pulsate, made the shift into 3rd, went back into 4th, felt the pusation again and when I went back ito 3rd again, engine killed and could not depress clutch pedal.

Will be dropping tranny, again, on Monday, but right now I'm assuming same problem.

The car is a 96 LT-4, which I had done by Callaway, so its a 383 stroker, running about 500 hp/500 ft lbs, with Centerforce single mass flywheel/clutch set up. Car has 20,000 miles on it, never had a problem with it before

ANY IDEAS?:banghead:

Hello FXGS, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner as I see you were dropping the trans. today. How did that go? There are a few questions I would like you to answer first. What does your current technician feel the problem is since it keeps recurring? Did the technician check for excessive end play at the crank shaft? When the engine stalled was it caused by the clutch? Now that you have inspected the clutch are there any signs of the pressure plate hitting the clutch fork? Is the centerforce clutch you have a modified diaphram or a finger type clutch? Let me know. :chevy: MKOTZE

Had a little delay, so were're planning to drop trans today(Tuesday) The engine kill is being caused by the clutch problem, I'm assuming when the failure happens it activates the nuetral safety switch(?) It is a finger type diaphram. I'll found out the other info from my mechanic and let you know

Thanx
