A couple of times after starting the engine, it will shut down and I get a message to "pull key and wait 10 seconds" before restarting. What is causing this??

George,
Have you had the recent recall done for the column lock?
People that have had them done at the dealer seem to be having this problem after the repair. I have posted all the codes the forum here. Here's the link.

If you haven't had the recall taken care of, then it could be a number of other things.

Yes, the recall was just completed two weeks ago and now this is showing up. Never occured until now.

Who did the recall work for you? I see you're from Macungie, Pa.
I'd bring it back, or bring it over to Outten Chevrolet in Allentown, and give it to Mike Kotze, the mechanic over there. Tell him FatherLarry sent you. But, first I'd check back with whoever did the work and give them a chance to fix it. If not, you may have to call a GM rep to tell them that you want to bring it to a different dealership, and you might need approval being it was recall related. Don't feel bad, a lot of guys are having the same problem. I don't know why they didn't stick to the mechanical locks. Much safer and dependable .
Good luck and let me know how you make out.

George,
Check my "C5 DIC" post. The service department tech who fixed my problem told me the body shop tech who originally fixed my lock cylender didn't replace all the parts needed, apparently GM guidelines are incomplete on this subject. Mis-alignment of the key can happen after the recall if it isn't done right, causing a no-start. Mine happend after a theft, but the same happens after the recall replacement.

George, I spoke to Mike and he said he remembered talking to you. He didn't remember if he spoke to you about doing the recall or just about the recall in general. But he said he'd have to check the records, and to give him a call and go down and talk to him at Outten. The problem could be in the old program. Let us know how you make out.
