I am close to buying a ZR-1. I have been looking for some time. I was wondering on the difference in buying a stock vette, or would a K&N Air filter, and aftermarket exhaust make any difference in the price of the car. I know that in the old days, when someone put some after market parts on they seem to have been driven harder. I realize that I will have to look at the car before purchasing it. I am not against pulling the good RPMs out of the the car, it is good for it. Thanks for any input

Larry,
Sorry I took so long to get back...the ZR1 is becoming a specialty car, and like with any specialty, low production car, a pure stock is always more valuable with all documentation.
Yes, any Vette that is modified, is usually raced, or driven harder. But, in the case of the ZR1, a lot of people didn't like the stock exhaust, and did not like the air intake, so replaced it, but kept their stock parts in case of resale. It may not necessarily mean that they drove it harder, just wanted a better performance.
You may also want to ask the seller if the chip has been changed. Even if it was, it will only enhance the performance, but doesn't necessarily interfere with the resale.
Believe me Larry, you will know when you see a car that's been driven hard or raced. Look for signs of excessive wear on clutch and brake pedal, body panel fit, road chips etc...Also as far as the removable top, this car has a lot of flex to it because it's unitized and the rubber seals for the removable top have a tendency to deteriorate.
The most sort after years are 1993-1995. The only drawback with the ZR1 is that it looks like any other C4, until you open the hood to find the jewel. Good luck in your venture and let us know how you make out.
