I'm working on a 1973 w/mechanical tach. In the distributor , I plan to replace the original nylon button behind the driven gear with a bronze one. (they are supposed to wear much better)
2 Questions: 1) Is this just a press fit?
2)Another option I've seen is to tap the hole and thread in an allen head set screw. Evidently this should provide some measure of end-play adjustment for the driven gear.
HOWEVER: couldn't this potentially bind the driven gear? Do you still use the button,(if there is space)?
How could the end play be checked once the cable coupling is tightened into the distributor?
Any recommendations??
