I need a good source for troubleshooting info specifically relating to the vacuum headlight system on the C3. I believe there are 1 or 2 booklets out there that deal with only this.
I have a 73 L-82 convertible 4 spd. I have rebuilt all the mechanical portions of both headlights with all the correct parts; bushings, springs, adjusters, door switches, etc. The actuators and vacuum relay valves appeared to be in good shape. (car has 44,000 original miles) I took everything apart, bead blasted, and repainted to factory correct color, then replaced the vacuum lines. Even my fake cadmium plating on the actuators and relays looks good!
Manually, everything operates smoothly; however, when I start the car, the lights come up and stay up. (headlights off)
The only way to get them closed is to shut off the engine and push them down. Problem is; except for 1 slow door, the lights worked fine before I started the restoration process! So much for, "fixin' it ,if it ain't broke"
I've double-checked the hose locations on the relays. I had a small hose leak at the headlight door control valve under the dash, and fixed it.
I checked the vacuum and it's steady, although I'm not sure what the reading is supposed to be at any given point.
Could it be the door control manual override valve under the dash? Any ideas out there??
Thanks............Lew Filman

Welcome.
It may be the control manual override valve under the dash. But I would say it's the headlight switch.

Good luck.
