Well, I WAS new 53 years ago....

anyways, I have an 81 that is going through it's on going piece by piece rebuild, (10 years in August) and have an ebay M21 set up from a 79 enroute to replace the leaky slippy slush box that is well.. dead.

So my stupid question #1 comes from a book that I was reading over the weekend, where the writer states "make sure you have a (engine) block that came from a standard, otherwise you'll have to send your motor out to have a hole drilled.." (for what appears to be the engine mounting point for the clutch linkage.

So... Can you tell by this picture if my block has this?

If that didn't work, here's the link: http://canney.net/projecty/383/19990813-063.jpg

Thanks!

Paul

53...you're a young man yet!

If they say patience is a virtue, than you are a Saint with this project of yours. By the pictures, it looks like you're doing a great job. Color looks great on the block, just like the factory color.

In answer to your question, I am assuming that your '81 is an automatic, otherwise you wouldn't be concerned, but yes you do have the hole. It's on the right hand side of the block in your picture. There are two holes, one is lower and the other is up a little to your right. The one below is the correct hole. The mounting bracket should be on the frame , even though you had an automatic. If not you can order it thru GM or another supplier. On some year blocks, they do have to be drilled, especially going into the '85 and up when the hydraulic system came in. You'll also need the pilot bushing bracket to screw into the block. Well, hope this helps. Keep us posted with more pics. Good luck.;bt :usaribbon

Thanks FatherLarry!

They really had me nervous. Luckily the unit in transit is coming with all brackets, rods etc. I guess he's putting an LT1 / 4L60E in his and doesn't need any of the old stuff.

Yes, it's been a long long wait, but the plan is coming together finally.

This is a real nice site here by the way. I know it takes a lot of work, and I appreciate the "usability" here. It's real smooth.

I'll have updates on the Canney Family Corvette ongoing.
