Santa dropped a Porter-Cable polisher under my tree last month. Before I attack my 1980 with it, I thought it best to tap the wisdom of this group to see what polish and wax are favorites. A little background: The vehicle has been repainted two years ago and has several clear coats over a red metal-flake base. The only treatments I've done to it involve normal washing and waxing.

I've just started investigating this topic and it's clear there's a lot to learn. First: should I use a polish on the finish or just wax it? Which products give good results? Any tips on taking a power tool to the paint surface? Seems a little scary to me. Any advice would be helpful.

I use nothing but Zaino products to polish / wax my cars. I've had my PC buffer for over 2 years now and love it. I don't know how bad the surfave of you car is but I wouldn't use anything agressive. here's a great site for PC supplies, I find their prices are goos and service is quick. http://www.properautocare.com/index.html

I'm not sure if your still looking for input but here goes. I have used P21S products in the past and have ben very pleased. P21 is a little pricey ($30) but definetly a very good carnuba. It was the best I've ever used until I tried Mothers Reflections. Reflections is a liquid polymer and for best results use their "Top Coat" after using the "Car Wax". Can't yet speak to durability as I used the products just before puting my garage queen away for the winter. For me though, durability is not really a concern as I wax every four weeks in season and the car is garaged and only used on weekends. Hope this helps.

I just started using Adams products. Check out the web site below. They have some FREE Video on how to use their products. The Clay Bar works the nuts.;bt I found them at Carlisle a few years ago and have been using it ever since then. GOOD LUCK...

I use the NXT wax. I've also been to the Meguiar's class in Invine California. Very good class BTW.
The Meguiar's web site has a detailing 101 page that you should look over. THis is a 3 step process that all detailers should use. Check it out!
