being totally ignorant to all things engine I need advice. when the time comes, my engine runs strong now, but has a few leaks as it sits in my garage. would I be better off putting a crate or rebuilt ? or...a newer fuel injected ?

Welcome to the forum

How much mileage is on the engine now?

When you say you have a strong running engine with just a few leaks, it's possible the leaks could be repaired for less expense than buying a whole new crate engine. It's also a good policy to keep the original matching number engine on your '77 Corvette for resale value. I don't know how fussy you are about keeping a car like this original, but my opinion is that a stock Vette, especially one your age, is worth more, unless it's a signature car by Lingenfelter or Calloway etc.

Where do you think the leaks are coming from?

I think the oil may be valve cover gaskets, (not much of a leak). the radiator is only a year+ old so I think the coolant is from a hose. I can't get under it in my garage so I'll have to wait until the spring to get it in the air. as far as keeping it original for resale (?) I'm thinking of painting it Black, it's silver now and I don't like it.

Well keep us posted. Make sure there is anti-freeze in it so there's no damage to block over the winter. Good luck and we'll be happy to help out with any questions you have.:usaribbon ;bt
