I recently bought a 1993 anniversary ragtop 6sp. I would like to have some maintenance done. The car just turned 40K.

I am thinking of the following to be done.

change the anti-freeze. Should I have the entire cooling system flushed also?

Change the clutch fluid.

Lube any fittings that need to be done.

What other preventive maintenance can I have done?

thanks for any input

Hello GreyGhost, There is actually very little maintenance required just because it turned 40K. However, due to the fact that it is 9yrs. old there are a few things you can do for preventive maintenance. If the car has been maintained fairly decently a regular changing of the anti-freeze should be sufficient. But if there are signs of excessive dirt or rust in the system then a flushing would be recommended. Normally the clutch fluid would not need to be changed but would be a good preventive step due to the age of the car. There are 6 lube fittings that should be lubricated-4 ball joints and 2 outer tie-rods. Again due to the age of the vehicle it would be beneficial to change the brake fluid. The spark plugs should not need to be changed until 100K. Also there is no recommended schedule to change the fuel filter but it would be another good preventive step to take. The transmission and rear-end lube should not need to be changed unless there is some other existing problem. Just a reminder in case your changing the oil yourself that it takes Mobil 1 synthetic oil, SAE 5W-30.:yakyakyak Mkotze

Thanks for the reply. The car has been very very well cared for. I have all the service records from the previous owner.

I just want to get the car serviced now that spring seems to be somewhat close now and just wanted to bring the car up to date for the driving season.

Thanks again for the help, Im sure I will be asking more questions later on..im new to the C4's. I could rebuild a C3 blindfolded but a C4..well:banghead:

MKOTZE, should he have the water pump checked for a leak? I know I had a problem on my 93. Water in the "opti spark". Bill:confused:

Bill:confused: Hello Y2KFRC, Good idea However, unless there is sign of leakage from the front of the engine it really would not be necessary. Access to the bottom of the water pump is very restricted due to the design. Therefore, I would not recommend it be changed unless a leak is verified. :) MKOTZE
