View Full Version : Body OFF!
Hi, I'm new to this forum.
I have just started my 63 SWC body off resto, and expect to pull the body next weekend when my slings arrive.
Can any body out there tell me about how much the coupes body weighs with everything in it and the doors on?

Welcome aboard!
The restoration that you are about to embark upon can be at times frustrating, but in the end extremely rewarding. Not only will you have a piece of Corvette history preserved, but you will gain knowledge of every single piece of your Corvette.
As far as your question is concerned, based upon 3,015 for curb weight, and that's depending on what equipment came with the Vette, the body should weigh approximately 750-1,000 lbs. The chassis and drive tranny come in at around 1,900-2,200 lbs. When lifting the body, there is a certain way to lift the body, so you don't put stress on certain parts of the body and do damage. Check your shop manual. If you don't have one, go buy one. It's a must. I enjoyed all the restorations that I have done, and I'm sure you will too. If I can be of any assistance, just let me know. Post some pics of each step. I'm sure our members would enjoy seeing it.
Also, it's a good idea to join a local Corvette club, where members have done restorations and can give you some hints. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the response and the input! I do have a "shop manual" but it's not very detailed, so I guess I'd better get a Restoration Guide Huh! Do you have any tips on a good resto guide or resto manual that is readily available?
I would really hate to break my body!:(
