I just had my '87 model AC charged and discovered that regardless of how the automatic controls were set (auto, bi level, defrost) it made no difference. Air blows from all openings and not as powerfull as it should. The mechanic said that there was a "door" that was not opening and closing properly and he could not fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions???

Sorry to hear about your problem. It could be a number of things. It could be in the control head, vacuum diaphragm, or in the vacuum hoses. It could also be a control module. I have also, often seen and heard of doors jamming or the hinge pin breaking. Did you also check your fuses?

I had a similar problem with my 1990 where only cold air blew thru the vents, regardless of temp setting. The dealer quoted me approx. a thousand dollars to fix. Something didn't seem right so I passed on the repair and began reading. I ended uo disconnecting the battery cable. After reconnecting it, some of the systems started resetting themselves, the vent doors were among them. It fixed my problem. Good luck.
