Should all the black components and firewall, wipers etc. be a semi gloss or a satin black?

Hi Rayfan,

Good to see you back.

Most of the restorers use the satin finish. I believe it to be the closest to the factory paint and it gives it a factory finish look.

I use the Rustoleum brand satin black on the frame and firewall. Now depending on what year Vette your doing, and the extent of the accuracy to original that you want to obtain, you can order a booklet from GM which is a restorers handbook. It's free and if you call Tina Wells at GM, and tell her FatherLarry sent you, she'll send you out the booklet. It contains vendors and suppliers of restoration parts for the Corvette. The number is (866) 942-4368 Ext 48950. Good luck.

Father Larry,

I am restoring my 70 vette engine bay and wiper bay. I want it to be pretty much exactly like it came from the factory. So it should not have any gloss at all?

GM has a great booklet called "Hobby & Sales Chevrolet Group, Past Model Information", which has 46 pages of vendors and and suppliers of parts for restorers. Call GM's customer assistance center and talk to Tina Wells, her direct line is (866) 942-4368 Ext. 48950. She'll send you the booklet. Tell her FatherLarry sent you.
