Hi All,
My first day on here....hope you can help. I have a 1985 C4 with a manual trans. Sometimes but not always, the throttle will stick at idle and it will idle at like 1500 to 2000 RPM. If you tap the gas like you tap the choke on an old carb car it returns to normal RPM's. If you clean out the throttle body really good it goes away but after 200 to 300 miles it comes back again. The guys over at the local Murray's said it is probably the TPS, but I wanted to get some better advice before spending some money on this problem. Thanks! :)

probably is TPS.
Good luck.

Found out what it was...the sensor was just a little crummy on the outside...some cleaner and boom it was all better...Now you know why you should keep under the hood clean!

By the way.....I would rather trust fellow corvette owners than other people anyday! Thanks for the advice and keep it coming!

Well,
I checked the TPS and it seems fine. I threw in a new IAC and it seemed to be ok then it started to act up again. What it does is when the engine is running and you lightly tap the gas it will stick to about 12-1500 RPM. You can visually see the throttle not return to its normal place. You turn the car off and it returns. So I disconnected the IAC and it does not act up. Could I have gotten a faulty IAC?? It had some steps to adjust the length before you put the IAC in and those were followed. HELP!!!

Did you every find out what was causing your throttle to stick. I have the same problem as you did. Thanks for any help. Ron

I had the same problem- here's what I did, it made the throttle feel like new.
Take off thottle body 4-10mm bolts 1 vac line (under) throttle cable, sensors for TP & IAC, and if you still have your coolant hoses hooked up to it, nows a good time to by-pass and plug them off(small HP boost).
now that you have the throttle body off, you'll notice that the butterflies ride on a shaft throught the middle, it goes from the spring side(where the cable hooks to) to the TPS side, I want you to use a good degreaser, oil remover, *not WD-40* and fully clean off the shaft, spring and butterflies, also make sure you fully clean out the IAC passages, it looks like a small indented track going around the back of the throttle. work the butterflies open and closed while you spray in the oil degeaser. air dry, then use a good oil, gear lube or 3in 1, any good oil to fully coat the spring and shaft, 1 hours work and you saved $300 for a new throttle body.
