I have a '71 cpe with a blown speaker in the dash. I have removed the screws from the front but I'm not sure if I can just pull the top of the dash up without breaking or ripping anything else.
Any trick or secret I should know before I proceed?
Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard in_the-red!

The dash pad should lift up with the speakers. Make sure all the screws are out in the front and also check to see if there are any in the defroster vent on top. Sometimes people install them to hold the dash due to warping from heat or sun. Once all screws are removed, pull forward, but not too much, because you don't want to pull the wires on the speakers. I know some people remove the windshield posts finishing moldings to give more clearance when lifting up. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.

I replaced both in my 71 from under the dash without removing. Pulled front seat so as I could get under to work. Hope this helps.:wavey:

First of all..How could you remove them without lifting the dash. Did you take both fronts off? I got it done. I had to take the windshield pillars off, remove the bezel, and finally remove the dash map panel. I was able to lift the dash up a few inches to get to the fasteners holding the speakers in place. I could not, or did not want to, lift the dash out. (I'd rather learn how things fit together or come apart on watching someone else work on their car!)
The kicker of the whole project was the speaker was not blown. The person that owned the car before me had wired it incorrectly. Regardless, he said patting himself on the back, new kickin' stereo, four new speakers, and 10-cd changer to boot.
