Hello,

I've been reading that it's "deadly" washing/degreasing and dressing the engine on my '90 coupe because of the damage potential to the optispark. Does anyone have any tips on what else I need to keep dry and their personal techniques? What cleaners do you use or recommend? Thank you in advance for the help:wavey:

Welcome aboard! Sorry I took so long to get back to you, but I've been on vacation.

The engine compartments of the C4's are difficult to detail. Even though the hood opens for better access, there are lot of wire harnesses and electrical connectors to contend with. Iwould try to stay away from wetting the engine down, although if all the proper items are covered and sealed properly in plastic, it is possible.

I would recommend a compound brush and numerous size brushes to fit in between the cracks. Mix a degreasing solution in a pail which is environmentally safe and brush sections at a time. Have another pail of clean water to rinse using another clean brush. It may take longer to clean and detail, but safer. If you do this periodically and don't wait too long in between cleanings, you shouldn't have a problem. Most of you aluminum parts can be polished and hoses can be sprayed with a silicone which will keep them soft. There are a lot of brightners out there that can be used in the engine compartment. You'll have to try a few to see which works best for you. Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

PS. Detailing is very tedious and time consuming, but well worth it at the end. Do a quick job and the results are evident. Take you time and your efforts will show.
