The bump on the key is a resistor. Take your key to the GM service center, Have them read your key, and they will make you a key for $22 each. :D

Hi vettebenny. If you can find a key without the resistor that matches your corvette key, cut it. Then measure the resistance on your corvette key using a ohmmeter, then go to the local electronics store and buy a resistor that matches your corvette's key resistance. Then take the panel off above the gas and brake pedals. then find a two pin conector that has a orange cable shield on one side an the other side has purple and white wires. this is the conecor for bypass on tha key contacts at the ignition switch. Disconect this two pin conector and plug in the resistor that matches your corvettes key resistance on the side of the purple and white wires and leave resistor pluged in for good. By this point you have bypassed the vats system on your car. Now you can use and start your car with a matching key. If you canot find a key, here is a website that sells blank keys, ecklers dot com part number A9129- for $14.99 each plus shiping and handling. International fax 1-321-385-21-02 also International E-mail. intsales@ecklers.net
Ask if you suply the resistance of your key, if they might now the code for the proper coded key? good luck!:D
