I first want to say hello. I am new to the board and new to the vette world. I have decided to buy a vette for a fun summer ride. My dilemma is this. I became interested in vettes because my uncle, who lives 6 hours away, bought a 2002 vette and is selling his 1979 vette. He was asking $9900 for it and tells me it is in excellent shape and well maintained. It has 90,000 original miles. The only down side is that is had the catalytic convertors removed and I would either need to register it as an antique or replace them. He will sell it to me for $7500. We are close and I feel that that is an excellent price. However, in looking around on the net I have found newer vettes for around $1000-$1500 more. They have high mileage, but appear to be well maintained and many still have all documentation. I am having a hard time choosing between the two. I am sure that there are others that have faced the same dilemma. What should I consider and any advice is welcome. You can email me at jjroot@greencastle.k12.pa.us or rooter@earthlink.net

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum! Sorry about your dilemma. But, if you were to bring your uncles Vette back to stock form, it would cost you more than $1,000 to put the Cats back and the sensors. My personal opinion is to never buy anything from family members. When you say "newer" are you taking about a C4, or still a C3 bodystyle? I would personally stay with a C3, than a C4, and opt for the extra $ on a newer C3 in good stock condition.

Good luck...let us know your decision.
