Has anyone had this problem???

I am planning on bringing my 1973 Big Block Corvette into the USA. US Customs require a letter from Chevrolet that states that the car meets EPA and DOT regulations. I have been on the phone with Chevy customer service for over an hour and cannot find anyone who knows what to do.

I am sure this has happened many times before.
Anyone have experience with this????

Answer to my own question.

If the car is sold in Canada. You call 905-644-5843. This is the GM Vintage Vehicle Services in Oshawa Ontario.

They will do a search on your VIN then charge about $55.00 US and send the compliance letter for EPA and DOT on Chevrolet letterhead. This will allow one to import to the USA. I assume it would be a similar process for other countries.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm sure this will be of great help to anyway that may have the same situation. A friend of mine went through a similar experience. He called the DA's office and they were able to lead him in the right direction. I emailed him, but you got to it before I did.

Here is what the actual letter states for the list archives:

Emissions (EPA)
Our records confirm that this vehicle was equipped with an emission control system which met US Federal Emission Standards at the time of manufacture.

Safety Standards (DOT)

Our records confirm that this vehicle met all US Federal (DOT) Safety Standards in effect at the time of manufacture (including the requirements of FMVSS 208-Occupant Protection) excluding possible labelling requirements. Replacement labels are not available, however, the DOT will normally consider a vehicle for approval without label changes providing all other safety standards are met.

This letter, along with your vehicle registration, must be presented to US Customs at your border crossing point.
