 I have a 1968 vette conv. It is a big block car without the orig. moter. I have not found a build sheet, the tank has been replaced. I did find a metal tag inside the drivers seat back with the #3930437 1219-? on it.
i have traced back to the 2nd owner who says the origonal engine blew for the first owner and the first owner replaced it. He was told it had a tri-power, but was unsure if it was a L36,68,72. Could any one help me out? I have a 396 in it now. Does this engine look the same as the 427 without looking at the codes? I have restored the car completely except for the engine. I intend to put the correct one back in it with the correct carb set-up when I raise the funds. thanks!

Welcome aboard! As far as I know the 427 is a bored out 396 and they do look almost identical. The 396 didn't come with tri power, and the last year for 396 was 1965. The L36, L68 and L71 all came in tri power 427's in 1968. There was also an L89 and L88 which was a special high performance and special order. The L72 was in 1966 with 427/425 hp.
