The power window on the passenger side of my 86 vette goes up and down very slowly. I took the door panel off and can't see anything that is binding. I sprayed WD40 on the metal shaft and it helped a little , but not much. My question is how do I tell if it is the motor or the regulator?

I had a late 1986 vette with the same passanger side problem and found the power window switch on the console to be bad
, the switch had a overheated pin that partialy melted the plastic. :)

Thanks for the tip. I'll pull the switch and check it. That will be a lot easier than pulling the motor or regulator !

Dennis,
The switch definitely could be the problem, but if you find that it isn't, it could be the motor itself. After a while, the fields start to get corroded, and the motor gets sluggish or could short out. Also, the wiring gets coated with corrosion which could also cause the same problem. Good luck. If you don't work it out, just post on Corvette Kotze's forum and he'll be able to help you.

Tried a new switch and window is the same , still slow. Looks like I will have to take motor and regulator out of door and look it over. I already took the door panel off and looked at it. It looks like it will be tough to get out, anyone have any tips on getting these things out ? Any help would be appreciated ! Also regarding my first post about the heater / ac fan not shutting off, I had to replace the electronic control in the dash and that cured the problem.

Sounds like a regulator problem to me. If at some point your interested in buying the regulator I can help you with that. Part# 22063225 $185.95 shipped to your door. If it ends up being the motor it's Part# 22143947 $73.95 shipped. Good luck

Dennis,
That's a great price that Jeremy has given you.
I just wanted to make you aware that you can not replace the regulator without replacing the motor. I was talking to Corvette Kotze and there was an upgrade released (bulletin # 87-268-10) Dec 15, 1987 in a GM bulletin, for 1984-1987 year Corvettes, which upgrades both the regulator and motor. The upgraded regulator is called a lift arm regulator which replaces the old plastic belt regulator which you have. The motor gears are also different opposed to the older one you have, so you must replace both regulator and motor.
Good luck, let me know how you make out.
