1973-1977:  A Car and Driver comparison in 1974 against Ferrari, Jaguar, Mercedes and Porsche surprisingly found the 250hp Corvette fastest in both 0-60 and the quarter mile. A milestone was reached on March 14th, 1977 when the 500,000th Corvette came off the assembly line.

There were 4,943 Corvette Roadsters, and 25,521 Coupes produced for the Model year.  In the  '73 model year there were 4,000 serial numbers that were never built.  The unused VIN numbers were from 24,001 to 28,000.  1973 front bumpers were changed to meet federal 5-mph standards.  1973 rear bumpers remained chrome, the last year a corvette would have any chrome on the bumpers.

Corvette history:  Goodbye chrome bumpers. 1973's rear chrome bumper was replaced with a color coordinated urethane plastic one. 1974 was the last year before catalytic converters appeared.  Power steering was improved, along with a radiator providing better cooling.

Corvette history:  Goodbye big block engines. 1975 was the last year (until 1986) for the convertible. 1975 Corvettes had simulated bumper pads, and it was the first year for the speedometer to show kilometers per hour.
